Message Summary
Marilyn Laszlo's story of her early life as a missionary taught that we can know God’s will. We must not stand still, but be moving in some way for God to guide us. Laszlo told the unforgettable Jonah-like story of being accidentally locked in a football stadium for two days, and how God used that time to lead her toward Papua New Guinea. She also told how God worked through ordinary circumstances to lead her to a specific people group. Laszlo also stressed how we must trust God and His plans and take steps of faith. We must be true to how God made us and be obedient.
The excitement and humor of Laszlo’s stories allowed the audience to experience the joy of her ministry. She told stories of learning the language and the wonder of the natives as they learned that their language could be written. While we in America usually have many Bibles, these people never had one in their language. The day their first Bibles came by canoe, the people lined the river and celebrated the arrival of the Word of God.
Student Response
I appreciated Marilyn Laszlo’s humor and fun personality. She let the audience experience what God has led her through. Her passion and love for these people was seen clearly in how she accepted and referred to their culture as her own. I was encouraged as she reminded the audience that our task is not impossible. She concluded, "You are very, very special to God. God has chosen us to reach the world."
